内容記述 | Digital photo frames(DPFs) have become quite popular in the last several years. These photo frames are intended to allow purchasers to display a collection of digital images as a slideshow with images changing at preset intervals. The presenters are currently investigating ways DPFs can be used to enhance language education. It is believed that they offer a way for learners to gain extra exposure to content - particularly vocabulary - that can be visually presented. The presenters hypothesize that if a DPF is set to continuous play in a prominent place where a learner spends a good deal of time, repeated exposure to the content - which may occur both consciously and subconsciously - will increase retention of this content. In the fall of 2009, an experiment will be conducted in which half of a class of twenty freshmen in an English communication course in a Japanese university will be provided with DPFs preloaded with content corresponding to their course. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected to examine target vocabulary retention, student use of the DPFs, and student attitudes towards them. This presentation will delineate some of the rationale behind the project, creation of multimedia for DPFs, and preliminary results of testing done in the fall of 2009. If educational potential is found, later stages of this study will examine a wider range of students, cognitive processes pertaining to intentional(actively viewing) viewing and unintentional(background) exposure, and variables pertaining to multimedia design and presentation. | |||||
